Design Master Wish List

The current releases are DM Electrical RT 1.3, DM Electrical 8.5, DM HVAC 7.3, and DM Plumbing 4.1. We are not adding new features to these releases.

The next releases will be DM Electrical RT 1.4, DM Electrical 8.6, DM HVAC 7.4, and DM Plumbing 4.2 We are actively working on these release and using this wishlist to guide which features we implement. Some features you see marked as “complete” will not be available until these releases are finished.

  1. Change default "max depth" setting for ductwork

Add an option for the default "max depth" value that is used when you insert a new duct. Currently it always starts at 24 and you have to remember to change it if you want something different.

  2. Diffuser Insertion at Corner (for Ceiling Grids)

Have the option to insert diffusers at the corner of the diffuser, not the center. This change would assist in placing diffusers properly in ceiling grids.

  3. Provide Weight or Area of Ducts in Takeoffs

Weight of ducts in HVAC Takeoffs provide a very simple way to estimate cost of projects.

Or, add an option to calculate square feet of sheet metal ductwork.

  4. Change Room Names from the Zone Tree or Floor Tree

Be able to right click or slow-double-click on a room name in the Zone Tree or Floor Tree to be able to change it

  7. Color code room outlines by wall type.

So for example when modifying walls during a load calc. Exterior walls might be red, partitions blue, and interior walls (no heat transfer) green. This could even be expanded to visually shows with color walls that have windows or doors.

There have been many times when I've had to back check walls that were inadvertently called out as partitions instead of exterior. Color coding would give an instant visual clue where mistakes might have been made.

  8. Compare Number of Balancing Dampers with Diffusers

A simple command that checks the number of volume dampers to the number of diffusers/grilles/registers in the database.

  9. Actual Tonnage for HVAC Equipment

Add an option to specify the actual tonnage for HVAC equipment in the zone dialog. Use this value to display actual CFM / ton and other values.

  10. Duct Continuation

There may already be an option (please inform me as I am not aware) for a 'duct continuation symbol/fitting'. Currently I have to go back and Pline a goofy looking thing to indicate continuations in the ductwork. Any thoughts?

  11. Add capability to have separate two line callouts for supply and return diffusers.

Add capability to have custom two line callouts for supply, return and exhaust diffusers as there is currently for one line callouts. Allow the second line to be blank for the return callout as there is often no need for cfm on the return callout. Same as a two line callout for supply diffusers and one line for return grilles.

  12. 'Capped Ductwork for Future Use' command

This is similar to the 'end cap' command, but would draw a 'capped for future use' symbol on the end of a duct branch.

  14. Use correct fittings

The pressure drop calcs indicate the wrong fitting types in some cases. For example, a fitting that begins with "SD" stands for "Supply/Diameter" and "SR" stands for "Supply/Rectangular", etc. If you have a duct system that is all rectangular, there should not be any SD fittings indicated. Likewise for round systems, there should not be any SR fittings indicated.

  15. HVAC - Allow for the input of design Notes

In the "Room Project Schedule" add a box which would allow for the addition of design notes. This would allow for the designer to document why certain values where chosen. When the loads are printed the notes would also be displayed for reference.

  16. Add command to match diffuser callout and location; just like you have for light fixtures.

It would be nice to at least have the command to match diffuser callout location.

  17. Dialog Boxes to View and Edit Load Calculation Settings for Entire Building at Once

Currently to view the ventilation and load schedules the report is run and appears in an html file. If for instance the outside air % is too high I then have to exit the report go back into the rooms with the high percentage and manually overventilate.

It would be great if there was a screen that combined all of the room information, areas, CFMs, etc. (similar to the load report) but this screen allowed you to manually modify the CFMs, system static pressure, outside air percentage, etc. and by doing this all of the room information is updated at…

  18. Modify design load calculations and output to accommodate VAV system selection

Modify design load calculations to more accurately size/select VAV boxes. The revised calculations would take into account the heat required to overcome the additional air supplied to the VAV box that is over and above the minimum required in the heating calculations. This will help since the additional air is typically at 55 degrees and will actually add heat load to the space in addition to that required by the envelope and minimum supply air. In some cases this can be a significant load.

  19. Create training material for the HVAC section.

The tutorial doesn't get into enough depth or cover everything, specifically the master schedule and project schedules and how they affect the project.

  20. Choose Fittings Used In Pressure Drop Calculations

Add the ability to choose the specific fitting type used when calculating pressure drop in duct systems. Currently, the fitting type is fixed.
