Design Master Wish List

The current releases are DM Electrical RT 1.1, DM Electrical 8.4, DM HVAC 7.3, and DM Plumbing 4.1. We are not adding new features to these releases.

The next releases will be DM Electrical RT 1.2, DM Electrical 8.5, DM HVAC 7.4, and DM Plumbing 4.2 We are actively working on these release and using this wishlist to guide which features we implement. Some features you see marked as “complete” will not be available until these releases are finished.

How can we improve Design Master?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

  1. Draw Circuit Loops Using Polylines instead of Arcs

When you loop from one device to another, be able to select that loop and break it in to two loops that can each individually be moved or broke. This way we can have "S" loops.

DM Note: When we implement this, it will probably be by allowing you to insert a loop using a pline. This will allow you to insert the loop however you want without any restrictions.

    • Select automatic conduit based on Type

When selecting conduit I want to be able to select the feeder as schedule 80 so that the only size option would be based on schedule 80. Then on another feeder I could select EMT for my circuits and the only option for auto sizing would be based on EMT. Finally, I would then have the option of adding the type to my one-lines and a conduit schedule.

      • Custom Universal Voltage Description in Light Fixture Schedule

Be able to specify a custom description for the voltage on light fixtures when they are set to "Universal". Currently DM lists all the voltages that are used on the fixture. This feature would allow you to override that and specify custom text for the voltage in order to better match the manufacturer's cut sheet.

        • Update impedances based upon conduit material

Be able to automatically update the impedance in a wire based upon the conduit material type.

Currently you have to create a separate wire configuration for each conduit material type.

            • Wrap wire size text on panel schedules

Add the ability for wire size callouts on the panel schedule to wrap if they get too long, similar to how circuit description wrap.

                  • 5-Wire Feeders

Create feeders with a 5th wire (dedicated neutral) for computer/technology panels. These are typically routed to "K-Rated" dry-type transformers.

                      • Tick Marks on Switches in Parallel

Handle tick marks on switches in parallel correctly.

One use for this is multiple occupancy sensors in which case if any one switch is on the lights will be one. Each switch requires a hot and neutral as well as the switched leg.

                        • Add a sort by circuit id, then by callout to Project Explorer

Many times on complicated drawings I have a circuit that feeds multiple floors of devices or large areas. When I do Find Circuit, DM will zoom way out, highlight all the devices, and put lines to them. As soon as I try to find those far away circuits the lines disappear and then I start the needle in the hay stack look. If I has sort by circuit id, then callout I could see all the devices and then select find on each device of that circuit till I select the one in question since it creates a line that…
