Design Master Wish List

The current releases are DM Electrical RT 1.3, DM Electrical 8.5, DM HVAC 7.3, and DM Plumbing 4.1. We are not adding new features to these releases.

The next releases will be DM Electrical RT 1.4, DM Electrical 8.6, DM HVAC 7.4, and DM Plumbing 4.2 We are actively working on these release and using this wishlist to guide which features we implement. Some features you see marked as “complete” will not be available until these releases are finished.

  1. Default label locations in blocks

Be able to specify locations for labels in blocks. When the labels are added to the block, they will be placed in the desired locations, rather than in the somewhat random default location they are currently placed in.

  2. Set room boundaries to also be light-obstructing rectangles for photometric analysis

It duplicates work to trace the boundaries of all rooms for energy analysis and circuit naming, then have to trace all the rooms again for photometric analysis. This would likely require the addition of a 'door' object to define places where light-obstructing boundaries would be ignored

  3. Circuiting layer dependent on device layer system

DM's default circuit layer system can be determined by three different options: (1) same as distribution equipment, (2) new, and (3) existing. We'd like a fourth option that makes the circuit layer system match the circuit layer system of the device that's being circuited.

For example, we're currently designing a job where we are installing new receptacles that are being fed from an existing panel. Our receptacle circuit callouts are coming up under the existing layer system (based off of the panel) instead of the new layer system (based off of the new receptacles). To address this, we changed the…

  5. Support feeder calcs for track lighting

See NEC 220.43(B). The connected load for the branch circuit is the sum of the wattage of the connected light fixtures. The demand load is an additional 150VA per foot. I would like a place to enter the number of feet of track on a branch circuit so the demand load is calculated correctly in the load summary. We currently accomplish this through a 'Variable Caclulated Load', but it might be more intuitive if there is a 'Length Variable Demand' option. Thank you.

  8. Double neutral wire size for wires less than 1/0

When a feeder neutral is doubled, DM simply adds a second neutral wire. NEC 310.10 does not allow this for wires less than 1/0. Update this calculation to correctly resize the wire when appropriate.

  11. Define fixed load by phase

When defining fixed load on a panel schedule allow entry of per phase loads on two and three phase circuits in stead of lumped loads, i.e., on 2-pole circuit be able specify a load for phase A and B on any of the demand categories.

  14. Support Paralleled Generators Connected to Switchboard

DM does not currently support more than one source on the Normal side of an ATS or the EM side of ATS, however larger I-2, I-3 occupancies generally have paralleled generators connected to a switchboard. This feature would avoid cumbersome work arounds.

  15. Diffuser Airflow Patterns

HVAC diffusers have air flow patterns much like light fixtures have photometric patterns.

Air Diffuser manufacturers supply the pattern shapes and provide the distances in feet for airflow velocities at 150FPM, 100FPM and 50FPM for heating and cooling.

Is there a way you can give the DM user the ability to insert their own airflow pattern (through a formatted file input) with contour lines similar to DM photo metrics?

This would be DM's start into Computational Fluid Dynamics.

  17. Subfeed Breakers on Panels

Add a feature to handle subfeed breakers on panels.

Currently, the workaround is to add additional poles to your panel and use those for the subfeed and mark the ones on the other side as unusable.

  18. System capacity for mechanical equipment

It would be great if when entering the equipment you could enter system capacity; then when running the load calc, similarly to what DM offers for CFM, you could have Current BTUs and Required BTUs. This could be per zone.
