Design Master Wish List

The current releases are DM Electrical RT 1.1, DM Electrical 8.4, DM HVAC 7.3, and DM Plumbing 4.1. We are not adding new features to these releases.

The next releases will be DM Electrical RT 1.2, DM Electrical 8.5, DM HVAC 7.4, and DM Plumbing 4.2 We are actively working on these release and using this wishlist to guide which features we implement. Some features you see marked as “complete” will not be available until these releases are finished.

How can we improve Design Master?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

  1. Equipment Schedules

Allow for equipment schedules to be created by use, such as chiller, air handlers, pumps, etc. The schedule would be populated with equipment that is drawn by DM equipment command

    • Low-Voltage lighting systems - Transformers and light fixtures for 12 Volt and 24 Volt systems.

Make possible not only the easy DM insertion of these devices onto the lighting plan but also the ability to account for these in the panel schedule and load calculations.

      • Photometric calculation schedule

I would like to suggest that the photometric calculation schedule be a combined schedule for all rooms instead of a dedicated schedule for each single room/space (or both options be available). We are typically asked to provide a single schedule that lists the room/space name in the first column and then the various footcandle columns.

        • DESIGN MASTER ELECTRICAL when wiring using the looping option

When wiring I have more often than not had to manually loop my devices for a better looking presentation but the only problem is that the wires loose their intelligence and become as regular polylines. I would like to see an intelligent manual line which auto breaks and shows the tick marks just like the auto looping feature does please.

            • Locate and edit schedules within groups to create T.I. voltage drop and other schedules that don't include the entire project.

When there is T.I. work within a large project you want to show only the the voltage drop for the TI space. You have to deselect all the equipment not in the space one at a time to show a voltage drop schedule for just the TI work. What if you could group the panels in a similar way to luminaires so that the TI voltage drop or fault schedule has only the TI panels, without disabling the ability to show a schedule for the main project or another TI within that project.

              • Dialog Boxes to View and Edit Load Calculation Settings for Entire Building at Once

Currently to view the ventilation and load schedules the report is run and appears in an html file. If for instance the outside air % is too high I then have to exit the report go back into the rooms with the high percentage and manually overventilate.

It would be great if there was a screen that combined all of the room information, areas, CFMs, etc. (similar to the load report) but this screen allowed you to manually modify the CFMs, system static pressure, outside air percentage, etc. and by doing this all of the room information is updated at…

                • Automatically Add a "Jog" When a Direct 90-degree Vertical at Wall Would Create an Overlap

Currently, when a Direct 90-degree Vertical at Wall returns back from the wall on top of the pipe going towards the wall, the pipe on top hides the underneath pipe. A common way of representing this in 2-D models is by adding a "jog" in the pipe. However, in the isometric model the jog doesn't need to appear because overlapping isn't a problem. Automatically showing this "jog" on the 2-D model would make representing these cases much easier.

                  • Use correct fittings

The pressure drop calcs indicate the wrong fitting types in some cases. For example, a fitting that begins with "SD" stands for "Supply/Diameter" and "SR" stands for "Supply/Rectangular", etc. If you have a duct system that is all rectangular, there should not be any SD fittings indicated. Likewise for round systems, there should not be any SR fittings indicated.

                            • Variable Pressure Drop for Diffusers

Using the maximum scheduled pressure drop for every scenario over inflates the pressure calcs. This is very important for low-pressure systems with low static terminal units such as ducted VRF and Fan Coil Units that max out at .25". Using the maximum scheduled pressure drop of say, .1" for air devices make it difficult to design low static systems accurately.

                                • Right click when entering Duct Labels to Rotate Label

Similar to how you can right click to add leader lines when labeling diffusers, it would be helpful to be able to right click duct labels to rotate them instead of making this a two step process. Also, rotating it would remove the arrow that sometimes accompanies the duct label.

                                  • Set room boundaries to also be light-obstructing rectangles for photometric analysis

It duplicates work to trace the boundaries of all rooms for energy analysis and circuit naming, then have to trace all the rooms again for photometric analysis. This would likely require the addition of a 'door' object to define places where light-obstructing boundaries would be ignored

                                      • Track which panel schedules are inserted on drawings

Keep track of which panel schedules are inserted on all the drawings in a project. Be able to check and confirm there is a schedule inserted for each drawing on a project.

The goal for this feature is quality control on large projects as panels are added and deleted.
