Design Master Wish List

The current releases are DM Electrical RT 1.3, DM Electrical 8.5, DM HVAC 7.3, and DM Plumbing 4.1. We are not adding new features to these releases.

The next releases will be DM Electrical RT 1.4, DM Electrical 8.6, DM HVAC 7.4, and DM Plumbing 4.2 We are actively working on these release and using this wishlist to guide which features we implement. Some features you see marked as “complete” will not be available until these releases are finished.

  1. Error Checking

Provide a simple error checking routine that will look at panel loads and compare them to wire sizes and ratings of upstream breakers. This could be a simple table like voltage drop and fault currents where out of range values are shown in a different font type.

  2. Customizable tick marks

DesignMaster currently supports the following tick marks during an "Insert tick mark" operation:

    - Hots
    - Neutral
    - Ground
    - Iso ground
    - Switch leg
    - Traveller
    - Space

We'd like the option to include customizable tick marks in addition to the ones already implemented above. For example, we include tick marks for low voltage cabling used to dim luminaries on our drawings.

I imagine the customization being performed through Design Master Electrical Options under the "Tick Mark Blocks" section. There'd be a "Customized tick mark 1 name" option and another option called "Customized tick mark 1 block". These customized…

  3. Equipment Panel Description

In the Panel Description dropdown, add "Equipment Callout + Description" to the list, in addition to "Same as Equipment Callout" and "Custom".

  4. lighting report

Provide a check box in the Building Room dialog box to NOT include the room in the lighting report.

I have a job where I need room names to generate the names for the receptacle circuits in the panel schedule, but don't want the rooms to show up in the Indoor Lighting Levels report.

  6. Having the ability to specify a breaker trip setting and plug size.

Add the ability to specify a breaker trip setting and plug size for adjustable trip breakers.

  7. Existing Loads & Metered Demand

Include, in options, the ability to not include existing (layered) items in panel, feeder, and service calculations. I'd like to enter the load to keep track of it, but have the ability to exclude it from the load calculations since "existing" would be included in the metered demand load.

  8. Number Circuits Sequentially in Panels

Allow panels to have the circuits in them numbered sequentially, rather than split odd and even.

  9. Query Low Voltage Device

Query command does not show circuit connection for low voltage devices. We typically have low voltage devices connected to different panels, and querying the device to determine the panel to which it is circuited would be nice.

  10. Selected device type to find that are uncircuited

Often I circuit items by device type, such as equipment first, then general receptacles, and finally lighting. Sometimes I only show the light fixtures or site lighting but don't ever circuit them as a lighting designer is taking that part of the contract. So under either situation if the symbols have already been placed and I do the “Highlight Uncircuited Devices” command, I get so many lines going all over the place that I can't find out which receptacles I haven't circuited. It would be nice under the Highlight Uncircuited Devices label you have a sub-selection of: Receptacle, Lights, Equipment,…

  11. Customization of circuiting callouts

In circuiting callouts, allow the dash to be replaced by a custom string.

Example: Default circuiting callout is L1A-1,3,5. Allow us to make it say L1A: 1,3,5 or L1A CKT 1,3,5.

  12. Make all Panel/Device selections drop downs

Some windows allow you to choose a panel or device (receptacle, lvd, light, etc) by a drop down box. Others require you to slowly click next/previous. It would be great if all the next/previous windows were converted to the drop down box.

I feel the benefits are pretty obvious.

  13. Add an attribute for panel schedule

Add an attribute that adds the odd circuit and the even circuit in a panel schedule, i.e. circuits 1 & 2, circuits 3 & 4, etc., and be able to put that attribute in the phase block of the panel schedule.

  17. Equipment and Receptacle Short Circuit Calculations

  18. Wrap wire size text on panel schedules

Add the ability for wire size callouts on the panel schedule to wrap if they get too long, similar to how circuit description wrap.

  19. Button to reset equipment creation dialog to default values

When you create equipment, the information from the last piece of equipment is remembered and filled in. Add a "Reset to Defaults" button to the create equipment dialog box that would clear the information and reset it to its original state.

  20. Add a sort by circuit id, then by callout to Project Explorer

Many times on complicated drawings I have a circuit that feeds multiple floors of devices or large areas. When I do Find Circuit, DM will zoom way out, highlight all the devices, and put lines to them. As soon as I try to find those far away circuits the lines disappear and then I start the needle in the hay stack look. If I has sort by circuit id, then callout I could see all the devices and then select find on each device of that circuit till I select the one in question since it creates a line that…
