Design Master Wish List

The current releases are DM Electrical RT 1.3, DM Electrical 8.5, DM HVAC 7.3, and DM Plumbing 4.1. We are not adding new features to these releases.

The next releases will be DM Electrical RT 1.4, DM Electrical 8.6, DM HVAC 7.4, and DM Plumbing 4.2 We are actively working on these release and using this wishlist to guide which features we implement. Some features you see marked as “complete” will not be available until these releases are finished.

  1. Recurring Meter Bank

Be able to create recurring meter banks and recurring panel instances that increment their numbers automatically. For apartment buildings with identical floors. Model one floor, then be able to reuse the model for the other floors.

  2. Tick Marks on Switches in Parallel

Handle tick marks on switches in parallel correctly.

One use for this is multiple occupancy sensors in which case if any one switch is on the lights will be one. Each switch requires a hot and neutral as well as the switched leg.

  4. Update impedances based upon conduit material

Be able to automatically update the impedance in a wire based upon the conduit material type.

Currently you have to create a separate wire configuration for each conduit material type.

  5. When inserting circuited equipment on a drawing, do not insert a homerun

When inserting a piece of equipment on a drawing that is connected to a circuit, the homerun is inserted, too. Add a checkbox to the insert equipment dialog box to allow you to insert the equipment with a circuit label but no homerun.

  6. Double neutral wire size for wires less than 1/0

When a feeder neutral is doubled, DM simply adds a second neutral wire. NEC 310.10 does not allow this for wires less than 1/0. Update this calculation to correctly resize the wire when appropriate.

  7. Equipment Disconnect Highlight Blocks

Support highlight blocks for equipment disconnects. (Highlights are the blocks that allow you to use a second color in blocks.)

  9. Right click when entering Duct Labels to Rotate Label

Similar to how you can right click to add leader lines when labeling diffusers, it would be helpful to be able to right click duct labels to rotate them instead of making this a two step process. Also, rotating it would remove the arrow that sometimes accompanies the duct label.

  12. Add a 'Find All Circuits on Drawing' command similar to the 'Find Circuit on Drawing'

This command would be invoked from the panel circuiting dialog box, and would highlight all circuits fed from a particular panel.

  13. Custom Universal Voltage Description in Light Fixture Schedule

Be able to specify a custom description for the voltage on light fixtures when they are set to "Universal". Currently DM lists all the voltages that are used on the fixture. This feature would allow you to override that and specify custom text for the voltage in order to better match the manufacturer's cut sheet.

  14. Diversify zone airflow based upon people diversity

When a VAV zone has people diversity specified, update the zone airflow. Currently, the zone load is updated, but the airflow is not.

  18. Fan coils and splits that are electrically fed via heat pump.

It would be nice if we could define a heat pump as a piece of equipment but have a second piece of equipment like a ductless split or fan coil either as a secondary part of that equipment that can be placed on a separate drawing (or a different part of the same drawing) or if we could link them in some way. The goal would be that once you circuit the heat pump, the same circuit would automatically be assigned to the fan coil which may or may not have an additional load. Then when drawing a homerun from…

  20. Show Locked CFM in Duct Centerline

I have been back into DM after a short break away from it's use. I have found that text now appears along the center line referencing that the width, depth, or shape of the duct has been locked. This is a great new feature. However, I feel that one of the most important features that could be shown as locked is that of the CFM. In a quick duct sizing and CFM check, by locking the CFM of the end duct in the various branch strings, one can size and determine very quickly how a system is going to be.…
