Design Master Wish List

The current releases are DM Electrical RT 2.0, DM Electrical 8.6, DM HVAC 7.3, and DM Plumbing 4.1. We are not adding new features to these releases.

The next releases will be DM Electrical RT 2.1, DM Electrical 8.7, DM HVAC 7.4, and DM Plumbing 4.2 We are actively working on these release and using this wishlist to guide which features we implement. Features marked as "Planned" will be available in these releases.

  1. Add Standard UPC and IPC Sizing Charts

Especially for waste and vent sizing, the conversion from fixture units to pipe sizing is standard for all cases for the UPC and IPC. Generating sizing charts for cold and hot water, automatically through a series of settings possibly, would be probably more difficult to implement but equally helpful to make sizing plumbing easier.

  2. Low Voltage Homerun With Keynote

On low voltage systems drawings (Fire Alarm, Security, CCTV) we treat homeruns differently than power and lighting homeruns. We do not use the circuit label, wire callout, or tick marks, but rather we use a keynote. If there was a “keynote homerun”, it would save us the time spent removing the wire call-out every time we create low voltage homerun.

  7. Automatically generate one-line diagram in Revit based on distribution system.

Automation is a must! It's all about efficiency to allow more time to focus on aesthetics and functionality, the things that really matter to clients.

I would not see this as a reverse workflow. Many times I will place panels in the model prior to drafting a one-line.

  8. Be able to add disconnects to equipment so they work similar to Design Master Electrical in AutoCAD

We need a way to link two family instances together so that when you update one of the instances it updates the other.

  10. Unique ID for all Feeders and Branch Circuits

Have a way to make a unique cable ID for every feeder, branch circuit and low voltage circuit. For example P-MCC1-001 for the power cable fed from MCC1 or PT-FLOWGAS-003 for a pressure transmitter.

I'm working on a big industrial plant where I need a have a cable number for every cable in the plant.

I would like to have the ID on the one line, plan view drawing and export to Excel.

  12. Do "Amps by Phase" using calculated loads on high-leg delta panels

High-leg delta panels are always unbalanced. The balanced 3-phase amps we display is not a good number to use when sizing these panels. The connected amps by phase does not account for largest motor loads or continuous loads.

Add the ability to determine the amps by phase using calculated loads. The largest motor, lighting, and continuous loads would all be calculated at 125%. All other loads would be calculated at 100%.

  13. Populate MCC Information Based upon Equipment

The motor control center schedule includes several fields that could be populated from the information entered into the equipment connection devices. These include:

    Disconnect fuse size
    Starter NEMA size
    Starter type (ie, starter description)

However, these fields do not populate automatically when the equipment connection devices are circuited to the motor control center. Is there a way to make the motor control center fields automatically pick this information from the equipment connection devices when they are circuited to a motor control center? Is there a way to override automatically populating the starter information into the motor control center when the…

  16. Add command to match diffuser callout and location; just like you have for light fixtures.

It would be nice to at least have the command to match diffuser callout location.

  17. add medium voltage conductors as an option when sizing conduits.

MV conductor insulation is much larger so you cannot get as many conductors inside a conduit. if you're using design master to calculate your feeder conduits it will be incorrect over 600v. I don't believe this is readily apparent now.

  18. Different layer systems for different loops and tick marks on a circuit

We can assign layers based on one-line (panel) or circuit or devices however not all parts of circuit are on the same layer. I may run some in the slab and some in the walls. Having the ability toi use the manual loop tool to change the layer system would be helpful. Also having the ability to assign a device to multiple layers would be helpful as well.

Or have some of the loops new and some existing.
